TL;DR

  • Vitalik Buterin responded to criticism regarding the user experience in Ethereum Layer 2, stating that one should not justify the current deficiencies.
  • Camila Russo argues that interacting with Layer 2 proves complicated and frustrating, especially for new users, and called for better interoperability.
  • Buterin proposed a plan to unify the user experience through interoperability between Layer 2, focusing on standardization and scaling with rollups.

Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, responded to criticisms about the user experience in the current Layer 2 of the network, which many consider fragmented and complicated.

During an online exchange, Buterin stated that the Ethereum community does not need to justify the current deficiencies while working on building the future. His remarks come in response to concerns expressed by Camila Russo, founder of The Defiant, who described the user experience in Layer 2 as “painful,” especially for those who are new to the crypto ecosystem.

According to Russo, interacting with Ethereum involves navigating between multiple Layer 2 solutions. This can generate frustration for both experienced users and newcomers, who often find the system unusable. To improve this situation, she emphasized the importance of seamless interaction between all Layer 2 solutions and the main network. Although technical solutions like account abstraction exist, their implementation remains limited, affecting the user experience.

Working on Interoperability

Vitalik argued that the criticism regarding the need to justify the current limitations stems from a feeling of powerlessness in building the future. However, he highlighted that the community is in the process of constructing that future. Furthermore, he pointed out that a plan for interoperability between Layer 2 is underway, aiming to unify the user experience by reducing dependence on centralized elements and simplifying transactions between chains.

Vitalik Buterin: A Rollup-Centric Approach

The focus on interoperability includes proposals such as standardizing chain-specific addresses and payment requests, facilitating the transfer of assets between different Layer 2 solutions. This type of technical and community collaboration is crucial for establishing consistent standards that allow for a more cohesive experience.

Buterin also referred to his essay titled “The Surge,” where he presented his vision for the future of Ethereum. In this work, he emphasized the importance of a rollup-centric approach as the primary scaling strategy for the network. The goal is to achieve a volume of up to 100,000 transactions per second across the different layers of Ethereum. Vitalik stressed the need to solve the current problems while preserving the principles of robustness and decentralization that have characterized the platform
