Solana merges SIMD-0567, opening the door to a leaner ATA implementation

Solana has merged SIMD-0567, a proposal that rewrites the associated token account process with a Pinocchio-based implementation called p-ATA and is reported to cut average compute usage for ATA operations by 81%.
The merge marks a codebase-level step, not a full network rollout. The proposal still needs the remaining deployment steps before it can reach testnet and, later, mainnet activation. That distinction matters: merging the proposal means the work has been accepted into the project’s development process, but it does not by itself mean the new program is already live across Solana.
Benchmarks point to lower compute use, not immediate network change
According to commentary shared by Solana Compass, the p-ATA rewrite comes with per-instruction benchmarks and a verification process that includes Certora formal verification. The same update says the remaining path includes audit work and a feature gate before wider activation.
The technical goal is straightforward: replace the legacy associated token account flow with a lighter implementation that uses less compute. That can make the new program more efficient at the instruction level, but it should not be read as proof of broader network-wide effects until the rollout advances beyond the merged proposal stage.
Solana Compass’s post also frames the work as part of the remaining implementation roadmap for p-ATA, suggesting the project is still moving through the steps that typically separate a merged proposal from a live network feature.
