Mercado Bitcoin pauses deposits and withdrawals after a security incident tied to tens of millions of dollars

Brazilian crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin has paused deposits and withdrawals after reporting a security incident, with outside estimates placing the amount moved at between $38 million and $46 million.
The exchange said it identified and contained the incident and that customers would not lose assets. The report also said blockchain security firms and trackers put the outflow above $40 million, with some estimates reaching about $46 million.
Mercado Bitcoin said the pause on deposits and withdrawals is temporary while it investigates the incident, tracks the assets and coordinates with authorities. The exchange also said there was no data breach.
Reporting around the incident has described transfers across multiple blockchains, including EVM networks, Bitcoin, Solana, Stellar and Tron. At this stage, the exchange has not publicly detailed how the access was obtained or said whether customer funds were directly affected.
The incident leaves users unable to move funds on the platform for now, while the exchange continues its review. For the moment, the clearest confirmed change is operational: deposits and withdrawals remain suspended as Mercado Bitcoin works through the aftermath.
