Deutsche Bank plans digital asset custody service for institutional clients

Deutsche Bank said it is preparing to launch a digital asset custody service for institutional and corporate clients, marking a move deeper into crypto infrastructure for one of Europe’s largest banks. In a company statement, the bank said the service is intended to let clients securely hold digital assets, with the rollout expected later this year and subject to regulatory approvals.
The bank said the offering will initially cover Bitcoin, Ether and selected stablecoins. It also said it plans to broaden the asset range over time, with tokenized financial instruments among the potential additions mentioned in the announcement.
Part of a broader push into digital assets
Deutsche Bank described the custody product as part of its wider work in digital assets. The statement did not present the service as a retail product, but as an institutional offering designed for corporate and professional clients that need custody and transfer capabilities for crypto-related assets.
While the launch points to growing bank involvement in digital asset services, the timing and scope remain tied to the approval process noted by Deutsche Bank. The company said the service will go live later this year if the necessary regulatory steps are completed.
The announcement adds to a gradual expansion of crypto services inside traditional finance, but the practical change here is narrower: Deutsche Bank is positioning itself to provide custody rather than trading or consumer-facing crypto access. For institutions that already operate in digital assets, that distinction matters because custody is the core service that determines how assets are held and transferred.
