Boltz suspends swaps after citing AI-assisted attacks on its bitcoin bridge

Boltz has suspended its swap service indefinitely after saying a recent wave of AI-assisted attacks made it impossible to keep operating safely. The bitcoin bridge and swap provider said it cannot give an estimated restart date and will only update users once it has more clarity.https://twitter.com/Boltzhq/status/2084311537502630319?s=20

In posts on X, Boltz said the decision was not tied to a single incident. The company said it had faced a steady increase in automated probing over several months, with multiple exploits contained along the way, but that the pace accelerated sharply in recent days. After reviewing its own security scans, Boltz said it could not responsibly re-enable swaps while attackers continued to move quickly.

Refund paths stay open while swaps remain disabled

Boltz said its API remains available to process cooperative refunds, while unilateral refunds continue to work because they do not depend on its infrastructure. Customer support is also still available, according to the company.

The service is non-custodial, meaning users keep control of their assets during the swap process. Boltz said that, for that reason, no user funds were ever at risk. The company did not present the shutdown as a response to a confirmed loss of customer assets, but rather as a precaution after repeated security pressure.

Boltz also framed the episode as part of a broader shift for bitcoin infrastructure operators working on open-source stacks. In its posts, the company said attackers now appear to iterate faster than a small team can patch vulnerabilities, and it warned users not to expect swaps to resume shortly.
