Communications giant Nokia has unveiled its 2030 strategy, focusing on the expansive potential of the metaverse and other emerging technologies such as Web3 and artificial intelligence (AI).

This strategy, outlined in its report “Nokia’s Technology Strategy 2030”, establishes an ambitious investment plan in its portfolio of network equipment and services to meet the growing demand derived from these technological advances.

The metaverse, in particular, has caught the attention of Nokia, anticipating a significant increase in network demand due to its widespread adoption and the growth of generative AI and virtual reality devices.

By 2030, the company expects a 22% to 25% increase in network demand, prompting it to focus on building future network architecture to meet these emerging needs.

The Nokia strategy focuses on six key ecosystems, including the Internet of Value, AI, Industry 5.0 and the Metaverse

In the latter, the company plans to focus on human enhancement, spatial computing and split processing, recognizing the transformative potential of these technologies in the way we interact and work online.

To support these initiatives, Nokia is developing a network architecture based on digital twin technology, used to create accurate simulations of physical objects.

This technology is being applied in practical cases, such as remote assistance to aircraft technicians using augmented reality, demonstrating the potential of the metaverse beyond entertainment.

Additionally, Nokia has been collaborating with scientists in Finland to experiment with “Metahumans” as an innovative way to manage employees in virtual environments.

These Metahumans go beyond visual representation, including internal aspects such as emotions and cognitive states, which opens new possibilities in talent management and virtual collaboration.

Nokia is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the metaverse and other emerging technologies.

Its 2030 strategy reflects its commitment to innovation and adaptation to a constantly evolving digital world, preparing to lead the way into a new era of connectivity and online experiences.
