On the 10th of December, 2021, Julian Assange targeted unsuspecting eyes at himself when he leaked highly classified information from the US Army Intelligence Analyst Chelsea Manning. The piece of information which he leaked using WikiLeaks led to his arrest on the 21t of December.
While families enjoy the festive season together, Julian will spend the holidays at the London Ecuadorian Embassy, using asylum to escape from the US government.
After successfully hiding for seven years, the embassy rejected him, and now, he is being held at the London Belmarsh prison.
Julian has been there for three years, and plans are being made to extradite him to the US. Nobody knows his fate.
Who will save him?
He would have ended darkly after spending 175 years in prison in the United States. However, a couple of cypherpunks came together against this punishment which they see as unjust.
According to them, “If extradited to the United States, Assange spends 175 years in prison for publishing truthful information.”
AssangeDAO as a body has a sole mission – to inspire a powerful solidarity network and fight for the freedom of Julian Assange.
The community has raised 12,575 ETH since its inception, which when converted is equal to USD 38 million. This money will be used to finance the legal fees for Assange’s release and campaigns to create awareness about the case.
Apart from raising awareness for Assange’s case, they plan on propagating the news of freedom of speech. It’s a constitutional right, and as such, they want to teach the public about it.
12,575 Eth: Is it enough to save a life?
According to Juicebox, a platform for creating fundraising projects using DAOs, AssangeDAO is the largest Ethereum fundraiser in history.
At the time this was written, they had already raised 12,575 ETH, which we said was $39,000,000. But with the positive surge in the crypto market recently, it is expected that this figure will increase.
AssangeDAO even surpasses the ConstitutionDAO, which was its major source of inspiration. The latter was created to get an original copy of the United States Constitution and has raised 11,613 ETH since its inception.
With what the AssangeDAO has raised so far, does this indicate good news for Julian? Will more movements like these come up to free those who used their constitutional rights?
Stick around to find out.
