TL;DR

  • Dolce & Gabbana faces a lawsuit from a customer over the unsatisfactory delivery of clothing NFTs in the Metaverse. During the delay, the products lost 97% of their value.
  • The complaint alleges that the purchased NFTs did not meet the company’s promises. Being delivered late and in an incomplete manner.
  • UNXD, known for its partnership with luxury fashion brands, has been implicated in the case. Raising questions about the responsibility of major brands in the blockchain sphere.

Dolce & Gabbana, the famous Italian fashion house, is in hot water after being sued by a dissatisfied customer. This customer accuses the company of failing to fulfill promises related to the delivery of their clothing NFTs in the Metaverse, resulting in a 97% loss in the value of these digital assets.

The complaint, filed on Thursday, argues that the purchased NFTs did not meet the company’s initial expectations. Dolce & Gabbana had sold these assets on the Ethereum blockchain, promising customers a series of digital, physical, and experiential benefits.

However, according to the plaintiff, Luke Brown, these benefits were delivered with significant delay and incompletely. The digital clothing was made available 20 days after the expected date and could only be used on a platform with very few users. Additionally, even after delivery. NFT owners had to wait another 11 days to use them due to lack of platform approval.

Dolce & Gabanna and UNXD Put Their Reputation on the Line

The legal case also involves the NFT marketplace UNXD, a platform known for collaborating with luxury fashion brands. UNXD’s prestige and attention to detail have made the situation particularly relevant for its involvement.

Dolce & Gabbana is no stranger to the NFT world. In 2021, they launched their first collection, called the “Genesis Collection,” in collaboration with UNXD. This exclusive collection included nine unique pieces, both physical and digital, combining Italian haute couture with technological innovation. The initiative solidified the brand’s position as a pioneer in the fusion of fashion and blockchain technology.

The NFT market has been growing in 2024, albeit at a slower pace than in previous years. Dolce & Gabbana has come under scrutiny as questions arise about the responsibility and reliability of major brands in the blockchain industry. As the case progresses legally, it remains to be seen how it will affect the reputation of the brand and the UNXD platform, as well as what lessons can be drawn for the future of the market.
