Bithumb cryptocurrency exchange hacked

Today, March 30, the Bithumb cryptocurrency exchange has posted on Twitter that the withdrawal of cryptocurrency and deposits has been temporarily suspended.

In the explanation, the stock exchange writes that at 10:15 on the 29th they discovered abnormal withdrawals through their monitoring system. Bithumb states that they “have provided all cryptocurrencies since they were discovered with a cold wallet and checked them by blocking a deposit and a withdrawal service.”

The incident was an “insider accident” and an investigation is already underway with security companies, a cyber police agency and KISA.

Twitter user Dovey Wan wrote that more than 3 million EOS (about $ 12.5 million) were transferred to the Bithumb cold storage level, but this is not confirmed.

In June 2018, Bithumb suffered from hacking about $ 30 million in cryptocurrencies. In the course of the investigation after the hack, the exchange returned $ 14 million of stolen funds.
