The concept of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) has gained hype and global recognition. People are learning about the concept through various platforms, as more and more organizations are making NFTs a part of their system. Also, there are a few NFT projects that have gained the spotlight with their skyrocketing prices. Onlyfans has become the latest platform to join in on the global NFT mania.
Onlyfans is a popular platform for adult content that works on a subscription model. Its foundation was laid in 2016, and ever since then, it is a big hit among content creators. The project has become an immediate hit as more and more influencers, supermodels, and Instagram celebrities are using it to engage with their audience and also make a handsome income.
Onlyfans has recently announced that the platform will enable its users to post verified NFTs as their profile picture. This is a major development for the NFT community, as Onlyfans entertain a large consumer audience. This decision will help in the wide adoption of NFT.
Onlyfans follow the footsteps of Twitter
The decision of accepting NFTs as profile pictures is not a new one as Twitter has previously taken this initiative as well. Thus, Onlyfans has just registered itself in a list of those social media platforms that are growing in favor of the use of NFTs.
Nevertheless, the platform will only allow NFTs that are minted on the Ethereum blockchain. Moreover, an Ethereum icon will also be visible on these NFT profile pictures to prove their authenticity. The platform says that it introduced NFT profile pictures in December. But now the feature is available for routine users as well.
However, Onlyfans is quite optimistic that the use of NFTs will help with the growth and expansion of their ecosystem. The Chief Executive of the platform, Ami Gan said that “our mission is to empower creators to own their full potential. This feature is the step in exploring the role that NFTs can play on our platform.”
With time, an increasing number of platforms are making their way into NFTs. They are exploring ways through which NFTs can catalyze the growth of their platform. The chief of Instagram has also admitted that the platform is working on NFTs. Earlier this week, YouTube also released a blog post in favor of NFTs and blockchain. YouTube might also offer a feature in favor of NFTs, as the platform has shown support for their usage.
